Three Parts: Getting
Yourself Ready, Breaking the News and Moving on After the Break Up
Sometimes you reach a point in a relationship at which
you realize that you love the person you're with, but that you're no longer in
love with them. While there's no right way to break up with someone, there are
definitely certain things you can do (and not do) to make things easier for
both parties.
PART ONE: Getting Yourself Ready
1.
Be
sure that you really want to permanently end the relationship
2.
Prepare
for the possibility that this person might be too hurt to stay with friends, at
least initially.
3.
Avoid
breaking up for the wrong reasons
4.
Make
the necessary arrangement
PART
TWO: Breaking the News
1.
Choose
the right time.
2.
Prepare
your partner for the conversation
3.
Use
“I” statements.
4.
Be
honest, but not unnecessarily harsh.
5. Suggest staying friends.
PART THREE: Moving on After the
Break Up
1. Avoid
talking to your ex, at least initially.
2. Do not
feel guilty for feeling bad.
3. Take
some time for yourself.
4. Rely on
friends and family
